On a postcard, maybe. In an American Express ad. On someone’s phone, mid-scroll through their Ireland trip photos. You’ve seen this pub before you ever planned to visit it.

The pink has been here for decades. The O’Shea family painted it that way, and when Mary and Garbhan Kavanagh took over in 1996, they knew better than to change it. They gutted the inside, modernised the kitchen, built a terrace with views of the estuary. But the pink stayed.

These days, tourists queue to take the photo. But step inside and it’s a different story. The turf fire’s going. There’s a fella nursing a Guinness who’s been on that stool since the nineties. The chowder comes out thick with Kenmare Bay seafood, and nobody’s in a rush.

That’s the thing about D O’Shea’s. It looks like a postcard. It feels like a local.
